A Book Recommendation

Mom and me found a new book recently which we are recommending called More Dog Psalms.  It is by the same person, Herbert Brokering, that wrote Dog Psalms.  (In fairness, we have to note that he also wrote Cat Psalms, and More Cat Psalms.)  Mr. Brokering thinks dogs are good peacemakers, and woof!  I agree!  Here’s something for all you dog and people out there:

I am dog.  I hope.  I hope for hours in silence, behind a shut door; on a doorstep I will wait, for you said you’d be back  I barked, begged; you promised.  I can tell a promise that is being kept.  My whole body feels when you are almost home, when you are almost awake, when we will soon take our walk.  I am ready even before you say it is time  I bark when I hear the car in the driveway.  I am in your way when you open the door.  First you must notice mean; then I will run ahead of you…..I am dog; I am ready to be with you.  Who can ever separate us?

God, my peace is rooted in hope.  Peace is an old story.  I wait for goodwill, seek it and expect it.  Nothing will separate me from the hope for peace.  Nothing in heaven or earth will destroy my hope and expectation.  Hope is your work amng us, a force at work to bring beauty and balance and life to creation.  Hope is not wishful thinking.  Hope is built on old truth old history, and theo ld word:  Behold, everything is very good.  Hope does not allow for the work of detruction and warfare and hunger and separation.  Hope sees the oneness in creation, peace in nature, the singleness of heart, the unity of spirit, the family of all people.  Biind us together with ohpe; link us in ways so we talk together, eat together, walk together, dream together, work together, live together.  When we lose our way to peace, bring us back together through the law of hope.

I wish Rusty could catch a squirrel

so-special-award-ii.jpgRusty is one of my new friends from my blog.  He is little and likes to chase squirrels.  I hope he catches one.  I caught a rabbit once, and it is an experience I will never forget!

Rusty gave me this great award.  I feel so special!  Thank you, Rusty!  And now I want to give this award to Isabel, Cub and of course ROWAN, who is my Valentine.

My mom did this….

You Are: 70% Dog, 30% Cat

You and dogs definitely have a lot in common. You’re both goofy, happy, and content with the small things in life. However, you’re definitely not as needy as the average dog. You need your down time occasionally.

I was a little worried, because before I came along, Mom considered herself to be a cat person.  But I see that I have almost completely converted her.  I guess I need a little more time before the work is totally done!  How long do you think it will take?

I have fun in the snow

A Dog Psalm

Because Grendel Asked Me To, and I Love Grendel:

I am dog.  I forgive without asking for forgiveness.

I will forgive you before you are ready to receive my look, my lick on your hand.  I do not bargain forgiveness; I do not make a deal.  You are forgiven even before you harm or holler or neglect or ignore.  Tomorrow is a new day.  Tonight is already a new time.  The sun witll not set on my anger.  I forgive you for I am yours and you are mine.  We agreed without a signed document.  You can hold me to words I cannot say, to a sentence I cannot write.  Hold me to who I am.  I am dog and I forgive.  Forgiving feels right.  I do not ask why.  I will not sleep with a grudge.

God,

I forgive.  I will not go to sleep with a grudge.  I do not carry anger with me for long.  I know the strength and peace inside forgiving.  I believe forgiveness weakens a battle line, erases wrinkles in the spirit, brings relief to my mind.  I forgive and chains fall, foe becomes a friend, a family relaxes, children hug and sing and play again.  Forgiveness makes possible change, a time to grow, telling the truth, acts of kindsness, reconciliation.  Your forgiveness is in me.

My Favorite book

This books has many prayers for dogs in it.  I highly recommend it for all dogs and people.  It doesn’t matter if you are a golden retriever, a husky, a labrador, a german shepherd, or anything else (they say “mutt”, but I say, what is a “mutt”?)

What Christmas Means to Me

On Christmas Eve, Diane is gone for a long time,  I don’t know where she goes.  Then everyone else leaves too.  When she comes back, she brings a lot of people with her, and they are very noisy.  They almost forget to feed me, but they don’t.

They put candles on the table, and eat meatballs, and other food I don’t care about.  Then there is a lot of noise and a lot of paper all over the place.  It’s just a little too exciting for for me, so I hide under the table until it’s over.

They stay up longer than usual, and Diane puts a funny red collar one me, which kind of itches.  I have fun playing with ribbons sometimes.

Then Diane leaves again.  I don’t know where she goes.  I’m so happy when she comes back.  I wish she could always stay here.

I heard someone say that Christmas is about God always being with us.  If it’s anything like when Diane comes back from wherever it is she goes, it must be great!

a blog for Christmas

Diane said she would get me a blog for Christmas.  So, here it is!

We’re still trying to figure out how to use it.

Merry Christmas and lots of gravy, pets, squeaky toys and other loves to you.

Hello world!

Hi, I’m Scout.  I’m a dog.  My mom blogs, and I want to too.

I am a golden retriever and husky mix.  I am just under three years old.  I am very smart and nice, and I like food, running, squeaky toys, running, being around dogs, being around people, and food.

What do you like?
