Today is my Birthday!

I am three years old today!  I don’t know if I will get any special presents or do anything special, because Mom and Dad are Very Busy right now.

But that’s all right, because for me, every day is special!  I got to walk all the way down to the end of the block this morning!  I got to sit right by Mom’s feet while she typed!  I got to have breakfast!  I got to take a nap!

I am three, so maybe now they expect me to behave.  Hmm, behave.  I wonder what that means?

So, what makes every day special for you?  Later on, I’ll tell you all about all the other special things I did!  But I want to hear from you, too!

A Heavenly Friday Five

dog-heaven-book.jpgI heard about Singing Owl and her sister, and I decided to do my first Friday Five.  As a dog, I have my own pretty good ideas about what is heavenly!

What is your idea of a heavenly (i.e. wonderful and perfect):

1. Family get-together
One where people pay a lot of attention to me, where I get a lot of pets, and where food drops on the floor!
2. Song or musical piece
I like the song with the humpback whales in it.  I don’t know what it’s called.  I just like it.  It makes me feel like sighing.
3. Gift
Squeaky toys rule!  Don’t tell Diane, but I really like food best of everything.  And oh, I like to give gifts too.  I like to give kisses, and licks, and I like to give something called “keeping company.”
4. You choose whatever you like-food, pair of shoes, vacation, house, or something else. Just tell us what it is and what a heavenly version of it would be.
Well, I don’t wear shoes, and any house is ok by me, as long as my people are there.  But a heavenly vacation would be a long car trip with my mom and dad, with lots of breaks for walks, and where I can meet lots of other dogs and people too!  Also, I like to smell lots of different smells.
5. And for a serious moment, or what would you like your entrance into the next life to be like?
What, from your vantage point now, would make Heaven “heavenly?”
In heaven there are no fences, and I can run as far as I want to, and still know the way home.  And they will be glad to see me when I come back.  They will open the door and let me come in, and they will come out and play all kinds of games with me, the kinds they make up and the kinds I make up too.  And we will play and play and play, and never get tired forever.

I wish I had a friend like this

golden-retriever-and-cat-friends.jpgMom showed me this picture the other day.  I met this nice dog once, when she was a puppy.  She has a friend, as you can see.  I’m not jealous of her (dogs aren’t jealous, as Rowan so clearly knows), but sometimes I wish I had a friend like this, that I could cuddle with.

It’s cold here.  I like the cold, and especially like rolling around in the snow.  Mom and dad don’t like the cold so much.  So, we don’t do as many fun things together in the winter.  Also, Mom has to work more in the winter.  That’s when it would be good to have a friend.

In the summer we go on vacation together, and I catch the ball in the yard, and we eat outside by the lake sometimes!

In the meantime, I try to be the best friend I can to mom and dad.  I know that’s my job, and that’s part of what God created me to do.

Also, does anyone here know:  why do most churches not let dogs come to church?  I think we could teach a lot.

I wish Rusty could catch a squirrel

so-special-award-ii.jpgRusty is one of my new friends from my blog.  He is little and likes to chase squirrels.  I hope he catches one.  I caught a rabbit once, and it is an experience I will never forget!

Rusty gave me this great award.  I feel so special!  Thank you, Rusty!  And now I want to give this award to Isabel, Cub and of course ROWAN, who is my Valentine.

My Exciting Evening

scout-in-doorway.jpgI had a good day today, from morning to night.  First, I got a ride in the car!  I was very good (Mom said so) and sat very still, so she took me to the Big Indoor Park Where Many Dogs Play!  I was so tired when I came home!

But that wasn’t all!  After I took my nap, and watched Mom and Dad clean the house (I don’t know why; it looks fine to me), a Big Van drove into the driveway and Three Big People and Two Little People got out!  I loved the little people and their toys!  One of them had a train set, which I sniffed to make sure it was safe.  I also licked the tops of their heads.  They tasted good.

Then, a PIZZA came!  Well, actually, three pizzas!  I counted.  They looked so delicious, and of course, there is always the hope that someone will drop a piece!

And then, the Boys came too!  And one of the Boys Did drop a piece of pizza!  What a night!

They tell me it’s Lent — but it’s not Lent for Dogs!  that’s for sure!

A Handsome Dog

coyote1.jpgThis is not me.  This is a picture of a coyote.

When I was still a puppy, sometimes people would say that I looked like a coyote.  For some reason this made my mom look a little sad.  I don’t know why.  She would get bummed out when someone said, “That dog looks like a coyote.”

Recently we saw this picture of a coyote.  I think coyotes are handsome animals.  And maybe, just maybe, he does look a little like me.

What do you think?

Rowan tagged me!

scout-smiling.jpgHere goes:

Rowan, who is my best dog friend,  tagged me.

– Link to the person that tagged you. (done)
– Post the rules on your blog. (done)
– Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. (done)
– Tag six people and at the end of your post, link to their blogs. (done)
– Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. I like to roll around in the snow.  My guardians sometimes call it “writhing”, which doesn’t sound very nice, does it?  I like the way the cold snow and ice feels on my fur.

2. Most of the time, I don’t understand why Mom and Dad get so bummed when I get sick.  As soon as I’m done, I feel better.

3. I scratch myself a lot.  I think just for something to do.

4. I think I am really pretty, and am pretty sure that everybody likes me.

5. I really like it when I get to go on vacation with Mom and Dad.  But, I like it when I get to stay and play with other dogs, too.  Don’t tell them.  I want them to feel guilty.

6.  I like to chew things.  Mostly, I like my toys, like my new cactus squeaky toy from Wherever Diane Went, but I also have been known to chew:  pens, money, cardboard, books (really, only one or two) and a sandal — once.  Really, I’m just curious.  What’s a dog to do?

I tag Zorra’s Amie, Wyrdbyrd‘s Isabel, MollyHotCup‘s MochaJavaPuppy and humans… if there are any humans who haven’t done this, please feel free!

especially for Grendel…

Here is a link to a picture of Pink.

 She is a nice dog.

By the way, I am home now.

I think they’re leaving

I’m getting a little suspicious.  There are suitcases all over the floor, and they are ironing (something they hardly ever do) and Diane is making extra rice and hamburger (smells delicious!).

It’s a little depressing.  On the one hand, I get to meet new friends and play when they are gone.  On the other hand, why do they leave me?  Why do they take me away from my house and my bed and my toys and my front window that looks out into my street?  Why? why? why?

I just want to be with them.

Please pray for me.

Also for Diane.  I see she is putting a picture of me into her suitcase.

I wonder what she does all day without me?  After all, I am the best part of her day.

Another good book, mmm good

yiddish-for-dogs.jpgDiane and I are studying this very excellent book right now, Yiddish for Dogs.  My favorite word so far is:  NOSH, which means eat, but not gulping down my food all at once like I usually do (because I’m starving to death, no kidding), but snacking during the day.  So I love to NOSH on whatever I find, and on the little snacks Diane gives me when we play those games (the ones where I sit, shake, lie down, heel).  The other day I NOSHED on all the frosting around some Christmas cookies.  Then Diane threw them all away.  Why???? I just don’t understand humans.  They are MISSHUGGEH.

I am not a Jewish dog, but I do believe in inclusivity and learning to speak others’ languages.  What about you?  That’s why I’m learning a little Yiddish.  I hope you all will learn a little Husky — it’s also a great language with lots of interesting howls, yips and whines.

I heard Diane talking and I think we are also going to learn a little WordPress together.  I’m sure if she will let me, I can help her a LOT.

I’m not just a SHAYNA MAIDEL, you know.
